Nasal breathing

Free nose – more energy!

Nasal breathing is the natural and healthy way for humans to breathe. It is crucial for well-being, good sleep, health and performance.

Why?

In the nose, the inhaled air is prepared for the lung (cleaned, moistened, warmed). Nasal breathing also controls many important life processes in the body and activates the "wellness nerve" (parasympathetic nervous system).

If nasal breathing does not function properly, the body does not run smoothly either.

Consequences are:
• tiredness
• reduced efficiency
• poor sleep, exhaustion and fatigue
• snoring
• sleep apnea
• diseases such as asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, disorders of lipid metabolism, etc.

Permanent mouth breathing is unhealthy. Only nasal breathing keeps you healthy and fit in the long term!

Why restricted nasal breathing?

A large part of humanity has a suboptimally functioning nasal breathing. But most people don't even know this, as they have become accustomed to unhealthy mouth breathing over many years - especially during sports activities. The reason for this lies - mostly unconsciously - in a restricted ability to breathe through the nose.

The causes of restricted nasal breathing can be anatomical, allergic or chronic:
• enlarged or swelling turbinates
• too small diameter of the nasal passage
• allergies
• chronic inflanmation, e.g. of the sinuses

The result: permanently bad breathing! As a result, the nose no longer functions properly. And lung function is also affected.

Scientifically studied

The biochemical secret of nasal breathing:

A gas called nitric oxide (NO) is produced in the sinuses (1), which plays a key role in the defense against viruses and bacteria and in the function of the respiratory system, the circulatory system, the immune system, the nervous system and the muscles. For the discovery of NO as a blood pressure regulator, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded in 1998.

One of the most important causes for very many chronic diseases are not fully functional mitochondria ("power plants" in the cells). A good NO supply keeps the mitochondria active and efficient (2). However, with impaired nasal breathing, too little NO reaches the lung and bloodstream from the nose (3), which impairs mitochondrial function. Then the body no longer functions properly.
